Why do marketers feel they most make every thing fun?

I was just listen to an ad on the radio for a computer repair place.

In the ad they had people saying how much they like the service. One of the people, an older sounding guy said that he watch them fix and was having a ball doing so.

now I have to ask how boning is this guys life (or how boring do the advertisers think our lives are) to think that watching your computer get fixed is fun.

and this isn't the only time I've seen/heard ads that try to make boring things (that we need or need done) sound fun.

instead of making things sound fun why not just tell how good your product/service is.

McCain is using his age well during the debates

watching the debates right now and I can't help but notice that even thought people thought that maybe because of the age differences between Obama and McCain, Obama would have an advantage because he is younger and healthier looking (like what happened in the JFK vs Nixon debates)

but I have to hand McCain at least a point for trying play up his age by basically saying Obama doesn't understand blah blah blah.

of course Obama troughs out facts showing that he clearly knows what he is talking about.

but still I think McCain stratagy may play will with older voters, since who feel like they are dealing with know it all whippersnappers.

Obama needs change and a few dollar bills as well!!!

I have decide to take a active inactive role in helping Obama became the next President of the united states of America by being one of his fundraise.

I set a small goal of $200. this is the first time I have done anything like this so I wanted to set a small bar. If I meet it I'll do it again and set the bar higher.

wow I'm getting old

I noticed a few weeks ago that I have grey hairs in my beard.

today my brother noticed them. but it wasn't like he noticed them when he was standing near me...no he spoted them when he was standing on the other side of the living room.

They had their chance to let the Michigan voters voice to be heard.

This Saturday the Democratic party is holding it’s committee meeting to try and figure out what to do with the Florida and Michigan delegates.

I’m from Michigan and I know more about this state’s situation much more then I know about Florida’s so I’m just going to focus on the big mitten.

It seems that right now the Florida delegates are ok with the plan to only have half their votes count, where as the Michigan delegates want all there votes counted.

I didn’t catch who said it but I heard on the radio some guy (a MI delegate) say that they are fighting for this so Michigan voters can be heard.

All I have to say is…hold up!

The Michigan government has had their chances to make sure our vote is counted and they screwed them up.

First off this whole miss is there fault. They choice to move the election up, not the citizens of Michigan. No one turned to me and asked “yo, Martin mind if we move our primaries up?”

They then jacked things up again when they let the deadline to issue a revote slip by.

If they really wanted the Michigan voters voice count then they would have worked over time to get that done…but there lazy butts just let it go.

What I think the Michigan delegates are fighting to make sure the people of Michigan get who they want in office but instead they are fighting to get whoever they want in office.

If we had a recount and Obama’s name was on the ballot unlike in the Michigan primaries I think the out come would be vastly different.

A lot of people didn’t vote because they where told (by our local news media) that there vote wasn’t going to count.

the other day I sent in a submission for nickelodeon's writing fellowship.

Since I have scripts that I have entered last year for this fellowship I figured I will not put them up on line for people to enjoy at least one of the thousands of losing scripts I am sure they got.

I probably shouldn't say this but I'm not to shocked that I lost because I write a script for a show I never seen. I just got inof about it off a wiki page and talking to my little brother. So fan's of the show The X's tell me how close I got the show you love.

This weekend Kosovo declared independence.

Yesterday Fidel Castro has stepped down.

and today Pakistan just elected a new leader. The new prime minister will be someone from the Pakistan People's Party.

what going to happen during the rest of the week? Will the south try to secede again? Or maybe Quebec will.

Hey Fedex guy

it takes some more then the length of one ring for some one to get to the door

instead of ringing once and running back to your truck...wait a minute or two.

something else that would be a good look...when you see someone opening the door, waiving their hand, yelling hey...don't drive off...give them their freaking package.

This is the first of a news series of post I am going to be running on this blog looking at ads. More precisely, I will be talking about and dissecting them and more then likely do a bit of mocking…ok a lot of mocking

The first up is this ad that appeared in an issue of the comic book Flash with the print date of January 02, for Starburst candy.

Ok after reading the ad I guess we are supposed to think that this young lady rammed a bunch of starburst in her mouth. But looking at the picture and I am not sure about that.

This girl looks like she has gone mad. Just look at her eyes. It is clear that this young woman has gone mad. Now the question is did she go mad and just rammed a fist full of Starburst in her mouth or does Starburst candy drive people insane. If the later I’m just going to stick to Now & Laters.

But honestly the first thing I thought when I saw her eyes, is that this is the face a sheer terror. Did she really just try to eat a handful of Starburst or did someone forced them down her throat. That’s right I think this poor girl was really flogged to death. I don’t know why a company would run this ad in a comic book no less but it is clear that someone forced feed Starburst to this girl to the point that they just spill out of her.

Because of this ad I haven’t bought a pack of starburst for over 5 years. Sure if someone offers me a piece I may take it but I can’t spend money on a company that places snuff ads in comics.

What to do about the horror at Dunbar Village

I don’t know if you have heard of the news story about a woman that was gang raped by a bunch of teenagers and then made to perform oral sex on her own son. It wasn’t a story that really made a splash in the national news, because there where other stories that the media thought where more important such as Paris Hilton going to jail, Nichol Richie being with child, Mick Vick cruelty to animals, etc.

But the story has been talked about on the web and has sparked much outrage. And rightfully so. The horror of this story doesn’t end with the fact that this woman and her son where raped, but continues with the fact that none of her neighbors cared enough to lift a hand to help her. They did nothing, no one came to her rescue will she was being raped, no called the police or called an ambulance for her. She and her son had to walk to the nearest hospital, even with the fact that they had bleach poured into their eyes.

One would think this is the type of event that would spark outrage in it community but as stated the people in Dunbar Village couldn’t seem to careless. The people of that community have been dealing with such a high crime rate that many have seemed to have lost their humanity.

Reading the articles that quoted people saying things like “so what a woman got raped, crime happens here all the time” shocked me nearly as much as the crime itself.

Luckily as I stated earlier even if the people living the Dunbar Village projects are outrage enough to do anything to either help this woman or to make sure things like this doesn’t happen again there are people on the net that have decided to try and do something about this.

Well at least one person the net is. The woman running blog whataboutourdaughters.blogspot.com has started a campaign to try and get people that are either seen as or call themselves leaders of the black community to pick up the cause on this event.

I commented on her blog that I think that there are better ways to try and do something about this besides trying to get these guys on board to do something. In fact she has a list of leaders and ways to contact them or their orgs. Maybe it’s just me but I think that to many people think that only these people are in a position to help the black community, and over look are on power.

I didn’t know at the time I made the comment what else should be done but after sometime thinking about it have thought of a few more things to do beside trying to get the leaders to take action (and try to get other people to do something)

First of after I thought about it is a good ideal to contact the Black leaders, but that is only a start.

Second I think we should also contact our local congress person and asked them to reinstate funding for the security of are nations housing projects.

3rd contact the media about this story. The media covers stories that they think will get them ratings (it’s why we get so many stories about celebrities) if they know we want to hear about this story they will cover it more. If the story is in the news a lot people (including the black leaders) might be more likely to take action

Why are small business over looked in plans to rebound economies?

Nearly half of American jobs in the private sector are with small companies. Yet it seems when states to small towns are trying to are trying to find something to save their economy they don’t look to build or help small business they look to bring an outside source either giving deals to big companies or building a prison.

In fact when certain types of big business come are many local business end up going out of business. For example Wall-Mart causes a lot of mom and pop stores to close, Starbucks takes out local coffee shops even McDonald’s shut down local eateries.

And with the cause of Wallmart the jobs don’t really pay that well. And by not paying well I not talking about it pays enough to get by but I wish I had a little more so I can get some cool stuff. I’m talking about people working but still need welfare to help them make it.

It doesn’t really make sense since one would think that the smartest thing to do is pass laws that will help the little guy thrive.

Of course it doesn’t have to be an either/or. If a town/city/state is looking to boost it’s economy by trying to woo big companies in prisons they should make sure that they have it in place that they will only allow the company or prison to operate if they have to help local small business in someway. For example a prison should be made to get 50% of their supplies from local companies, etc.

Along with more and more people spending more of their money at local small business this could really be something that could be a real catalyst to bring economies to big heights. Because the economy wont just increase because local business have a good deal with what ever the out side source is (nor the fact that that source will should also hire local people.) But the fact that those business and the people working in them (and the people working at the big companies/prison complex/whatever) will have more income (or more people will have income) to spend. If spent local that just means an increase of revenue for small business.

The economy how does it still stand

The other day I saw reports saying that customer confidence has been on the raise. Which puzzles me, giving that last week the stock market had such a huge drop, the prices of goods have gone up and let’s not talk about gas and milk. And there is also the job market which (at least where I am at) is horrible.

Ok the stock market dive is a recent event and wouldn’t effect the people in that study. In fact the stock market has been doing really well even though much of the gains where whipped out last week. But the other factors would still be in play.

Maybe someone out in the wonderful world of the internet can’t tell me what everyone else sees that makes them think the economy is good that I don’t.

Giving that that value of the dollar and hence are economy is based so much on what people think I wonder what the future well hold. Well the economy have a big down turn because people look at the stock market, all the new homeless people that lost their homes because they couldn’t pay their sub-prime mortgage, sky rocketing prices on consumer goods and staples like food, milk and gas. Or well we be able to keep the economy going by people doing what they have been doing for some time…say the economy is doing great so people feel like everything is good and spend, spend, spend.

Of course I think the by the time the next report on consumer confidence comes out I think the raise in the minimum wage should be in effect and maybe people well fell good about the economy for a reason I can understand…they’ll have a little more money in their pockets then they did during the last study.

America is Back?

I was just watching an Obama speech on C-span and I am starting to see why there is so much hype around the guy. He has away to sweep you away with his words, bring up things that many people miss because of the way the current president is running things. Things like habeas corpus or even talking with other countries to get things done.

Funny thing is that he even drop a line that popped in my head some time ago that I think who ever wins the 2008 election should use as slogan…”America is back”

I still think it is to early to say if I want to get behind the guy but I have to say that for the most part he has been cementing his place near the top of my list.

rebuild New Orleans green

The other night (Monday) I was watching the Tavis Smiley show’s first part in a series on the victims of hurricane Katrina that have moved back to New Orleans to try and rebuild there lives. Watching people talk about the hard time they had getting things like power in their area I begin to wonder why there isn’t more being done not only to rebuild the city but to make it even better.

Now when I say make it better I don’t mean the way that many in the city fear, ie tearing down the mostly Black areas and either building housing that many of the original residents can’t afford or make it to boutique town. What I was thinking was to rebuild the city so house are more ecologically friendly.

Maybe I’m only thinking this because I noticed a lot news about green tech recently. But think about it, when this documentary was being filmed a lot of people where living in areas with no powers. It made me wonder what if people and companies got together to help rebuild peoples home with things like solar panels. People in areas that government doesn’t feel is populated enough to worry about trying to get energy to can at least generate their own.

Know if a company wonders why should install homes with any renewable energy set for free, the answer is simple. You can use the people that you give help to as public relations and also for advertisement. Your company will look really good if you can run ads saying “WHATEVER CO. helped the Jenkins family of New Orleans get the power they need to rest their lives” or something to that affect.

attack of Aqua Teen Hunger Force...number 1 in the hood

I have been reading a bunch of articles about the people of Boston being scared $H!tless because of some viral ads for the cartoon show Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

This is what cased the panic

Now I ask when you see this what is he first thing that came into your mind? Is it hey why is that cartoon character giving me the finger? or hey its the guy from that one show.

sadly it seems some idiots in Boston thought...oh my god terrorist. But hey one stupid dumby wouldn't really be much news, it's the fact that a bunch of morons that hold office seem to have thought the same way.

These ads where places in cities all across America but only in Boston, did some call the bomb squad to take them down.

The two people that were hired by Turner Broadcasting to place the ads are now facing the possibility of going to jail.

Assistant Attorney General John Grossman says that "It's clear the intent was to get attention by causing fear and unrest that there was a bomb in that location,"

but really was that these two guy ideal? It's really hard to make that jump in logic. They wanted people to see it yes...but it's hard to see how any one would think that was a bomb. Instead of just "what is that character and why is it flicking me the bird?"

Mayor Thomas Menino stated "It is outrageous, in a post 9/11 world, that a company would use this type of marketing scheme,"

he is right about one thing, this is outrageous. but the problem isn't the marketing tactic it's the fact that after 9/11 America seems to have turned into a land of really jumpy scaredy cat punks.

it's a shame this reminds me of when some high school students made blocks like the ones that can be found in the video game Super Mario Brothers and people panic thinking it was a terrorist attack.

It's time for us as a nation to Man up...street art isn't an act of terrorism...vandalism maybe but not terror.

Middle America please:

STOP BEING A AFFRIAD OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE AND DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!

Acting like the people of Boston just did only gives the terrorist a win with out them having to do a damn thing.

in a post 9/11 world we have to remember that terrorist want use scared and it is clear by the way people acted about this we are still living in a state of fear. And that is what they wanted.

So please stop giving into the terrorist. next time you see something like street art or marketing don't jump to the conclusion that it has to be terrorist and go on your day.

why everyone hates hip-hop

Growing up as a kid in the 80's I was exposed to an art form of music called rap. I don't really remember the first rap song I heard but I do remember when it really clicked with me.

I was flipping through channels when I ran across BET and they were playing KRS-One's My Philosophy and then DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince's Parent's Just Don't Understand. two extremely different songs but they still hit home with and 8 year old me.

Maybe being introduced to the music by two songs that are so different (social-political to pop) that when I got older and gangsta rap became extremely popular in the media, I was always trying to defend rap by pointing out that it is so much more then just gangsta rap.

But then after watching a number of documentaries about old singers, I realized something...old people always hate the music of the youth.

so after that I basically learned how to ignore most of the complaints about rap music.

But then I got older and noticed a number of the complaints people had/have about rap are true about many of the songs that get heavy air play. A lot of rap songs that get heavy rotation on radio and on TV is full of sexism/misogyny, violence and materialism and they do have some effects on the youth.

But the thing is that these issues are problems we have across the board in society. So in fact the problems that people have with hip-hop are really the problems that they have with America.

or at least the problems that they should have with America.

is there really much difference between kids wanting to be gangsters in the past because they saw it on the movies and kids wanting to be gangstas today because they hear it on the radio?

is it really any more sexist to have a video full of Black women with big booties in bikinis compared to having of video of White women with large breast in bikinis?

what does more to increase gun violence? Westerns, rap or Rambo? Or is it that we have live in a society that glorifies guns, that's the problem?

I thank the reason that people dog pile on rap and hip-hop is because as I noted early the older generation always hates on the youngster's taste in music. But also because this music is mostly brought to you by...Black people and if you look at the past every time a new form of music that comes from the African-American community becomes popular it's dismissed and looked down on.

even though the music reflects problems that we have in society, those two facts makes theme stuck out more for some people.

In no way do I want to excuse hip-hop on these problems but I just think that before (or while) people want to deal with the problems of hip-hop we have to fix the the problems we have across the board. Because if we don't it won't matter if we fix rap because it will only get infected again because rap in part of American society and what ails it also ails hip-hop.

they couldn't wait to kill this guy. first they gave him about a month to live. then earlier today they said they might kill him by tomorrow and now they are going with it tonight.

heck I bet they might move it even sooner then 10.

just say no to sex

This is crazy the goverment is now going to spend money on abstinence programs not for kids and teens but for adults.

That's right the goverment is now trying to push the ideal that people under the age of 30 shouldn't have sex.

who the hell do they think they are to tell adults not to have sex?

And do they really think this is going to work? it's just going to be a waste of millions of dollars that could be better used for something else.

people of the yac really do want to better the city

although I am still bummed about affirmative action being axed in Michigan I am glad to say that mileages on the ballot to help improve the city of Pontiac have passed.

These mileages where to increase police funding, money for senior citizens programs and to keep are crappy library open (and hopeful make it less crappy)

I wasn't sure about this because like affirmative action it looked like these mileages (with the expectation of the senior citizens one) would not be supported by the voting public.

But it looks like a millage to fund programs for youth might not pass which is sad. But fits into my theory that people really hate kids. oh yeah we say we like them and want them to have a better future but collectively we F*** them over every chance we get.

if that millage doesn't pass I think that will be a reason why

affirmative action is now banned in the glove state

that right affirmative action is gone in the state of Michigan.

I'm very depressed by this but not to shocked. Watching channel 7's numbers when they where counting the results it stated that the ban was in the lead. But most of what I saw was when less then 20% of the vote was counted.

with all the problems that may have been with a program like affirmative action it still did more good then it did bad. With it gone I fear things will slip to how they were in the 60's and earlier. when your looking for a job or applying for college you might begin to notice coloreds need not apply.

What you think I'm over blowing things?

I hope so.

But truth is are nation still has race issues.

Not to long ago there was a study that showed that people with Black sounding names are less likely to get job interviews to places they send their resumes then those with more White sounding names. EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS.

and that's just one example.

and the ending of affirmative action doesn't just effect people of color, it will also have and effect on women.

Because this will also mean an end to programs that make sure females also get equal opportunities as males. let it be in school or in the work force.

and just racism hasn't ended in America so hasn't sexism. Or did the old boys network closed down recently and I didn't hear about it.

So this is all a bit ironic giving the fact that the person that was used as figured head for the ban was a white woman who felt the reason she didn't get into the university of Michigan was because of her race. Now she will less likely to get in because of her genitals.

who is staying the course now?

I find it interesting that Dick Devos is running ads against Jennifer Granholm saying that she is all about staying the course.

the reason this is odd to me is the Devos the republican candidate for govenor of Michigan and Granholm is of course the Democrat and the term stay the course is something that has been used as a tag line by the Repbulicans the last few years. That tag line of course hasn't been doing well for them and so it just seems odd that one of them is trying to pin it on a Democrat. Of course the Republicans using that term in the past (trying to spin it for the postive) were talking about Iraq and the Republican using this term now (and spinning it for the postive) is talking about the economy.

I hope this guy doesn't get mad at me for linking to his blog

I ran across this new comic related blog. it seems nice (it just started out so we how long it can keep up being good) but I was reading thread on another site (the V hive) about how he is angery about another blog (women in comics) linking to him.

I would tell people to check it out but fear the net rage I would get.

wii the funs coming...maybe?

The news is out the Wii will cost $250 (pk it's 249.99 to keep it just under that promised less then 250.) Which means I lost in all those guess the wii's price pools. I was guessing it would have been a bit over $50 cheaper.

But it does come with a game. something that hasn't happend in a long time with the release of new gaming consoles. The game? Wii sports.

Out of control:

Last Wednesday ABC aired a news documentary on AIDS in the Black community.

Blackaids.org says this was the first national TV program (I guess they mean on broadcast TV, since there have been some on cable stations aimed at African Americans) on AIDS epidemic in African Americans.

Which would have been a good thing except as I watched I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just a new area wave around old stereotypes about Blacks. And in this cause that is of Black being over sexed animals.

I'm not sure where they got there information. But some of the stats they gave seemed really high. I'm not talking about the affection rate among African American I already know that high. It was things like when they talked about high much more Blacks are sexually active. I forget the number ( I want to say they said 14 times more) but it seem really high. It just make it seem that Black do nothing but have sex. Ok so as I type this I'm in the middle of an orgy...But that is not the point.

beside that it was the same old same old about the raise of AIDS among Black woman that if you watched, read, listen to any thing else that talked about AIDS among the African American community you would know.

I think the report (and many others that I've seen) focuses on African American women as it demonize Black men.

I think there may be a little to much focus on the Downlow. Because if the HIV rates among Black women are so high and the cause of the down low is (as these reports seem to say) the main cause then that means either

a) Every other Black man is really gay or bisexual and hiding it

or

b) Most Black women for really like gay/bisexual men

which is a bit hard to believe, but if most (60% primetime said) of the new causes are Black women then at least b is true or primetime's stats are a bit off.

of course if the numbers are so high for Black women then I would like to see them for Black men. It can't be 40% because there are other groups of people that still get AIDS/HIV

I think this was a long enough rant I may come back on it later though

Just voted

I Voted... Did You?

I just got in from voting. For those who didn't do so yet you still have half an hour or more depending on the time zone your in as you read this (assuming your reading this when it was posted)

It was a nice day so I walked to the polling place but ran into a friend of my brother's when I was half way there and ended up with a ride.

Before I got into the polling place to vote I was hammered with people trying to get me vote for them or candidate. I ran into a guy I knew when I was a kid (yet he didn't hand me anything think fully) and some guy trying to get on as a write on.

Which brings to a big question. Why is this guy running as a write in? It doesn't seem to hard to run in a local election. Not to expensive.

Also the guy had no info about himself. He just handed a flyer with his name asking you to write it end. He had nothing stating where he stands on any issue. In fact this has been a problem with most of the people I've seen running. They'll give you a post card asking for you to vote for them but none of them say what they would (at least like/try to) do when they will get into office. I only saw two people with websites.

Dear people running in local elections give the people so F'ing info about you.

as I walked back home I ended up giving a crackhead a heart attack because she thought I was a cop.

well that's my 2006 primary voting story. What's yours?

art and famly history going to the trash

I'm a bit bummed right now. Today I was cleaning out my grandmother's house with my uncle and cousin. Doing so we ran into a bunch of paintings my grandfather did, sadly they were moldy and so wet that you picked them up many of them tore away.

It was really sad having to trow away some nice paintings.

There are still a few left does anyone know if there is a way to save them?

I think the reason I'm so sad about it is that I never got a chance to know my grandfather. He did a few weeks before I was even born. His art was on of the few things I really got to know about the guy.

man the the chappelle show sucked last night

I'm willing to put money on the ideal that the real reason Dave Chappelle quit was because he smart enough to know when to jump ship.

I can also see why comedy central waited so long to air them. Let the bad press fall on Dave Chappelle so they look like the good guys. If they aired the shows early people wouldn't go on and on about how Dave Chappelle went crazy but instead how bad the show turned up in it's third season. One of these the network can profit more from.

take the money and run...just take the money and run man.

I guess I'll keep watching to see if this season get's better.

Paper, Rock, Scissors

People most be really running out of ideals for things to put on TV because last night A&E showed a Paper, Rock, Scissors tournament.

And all I can say was that it was comedy gold.

Mainly due to this being way to over produced and people thinking things to seriously. Oh and it's freaking rock paper scissors on TV.

The show had it all corny host who you can tell are just thinking "were did my career go, so bad that I'm hosting a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament?" taking breaks between rounds to have some guy give out strategies playing rock, paper, scissors (really do people tips on playing rock paper scissors?)

But what really put this over the top was when they had a lady (on of the players) talk about how playing rock, paper, scissors saved her when she was a kid. See she was going down the run path and life and was a teenage run away. And one night here and her friends only made enough cash from panhandle to buy one meal from McDonald's. So they played rock, paper, scissors to see who eats and it seems that she won and show she ate and her friends starved to death or something. All I have to say was wow they couldn't have split the burger.

Sorry rock, paper, scissors fans, but all though I think the ideal that there is a rock, paper, scissors tournament is a silly ideal that I think is fine that is around but rock, paper, scissors doesn't make good TV. Though it might make a nice internet video.

Oh and in case you where wondering the winner recieved $50,000 plus they had a side battle where some on won a car. To that all I have to say is if you can get cash for playing sign me up.

667 the day after the beast

well we got past all that 6/6/06 nonsense (it's 666 or even 616 it's not 6606 and it not 662006 that make make the mark of the best) and boy was it a let down.

The world didn't end.
And I expect more things to tie into the date.

carjack or adventures in the hood

Last night was crazy. My mother's got stolen right in front of her house.

My little brother it seems show them pulling out of the drive way and so he ran out of the house chasing them.

I went out looking for my brother. Maybe I had a chance of catching him chasing but honestly I was more worried that this fool would have gotten hurt because of his stupid Superman complex.

I had no ideal which way he went, I was about to go left but heard a dog barking in the distance to the right so I went that way. Thinking maybe it was barking because it heard/saw a guy chasing a car.

I couldn't find him, so I head back home. Where I saw my brother walking out side (it seems I should have gone with my first split second hunch)

He said that he saw four guys with a the car and wanted to go back out and get them. I told him that it wasn't a good ideal because they could be armed. His only reply was "If they had a gun I would have been shot already" since he was still ready to go I pointed out that they out number us and he doesn't even have a weapon.

So he headed back into the house and went in the kitchen to get I guess get a knife (sidenote why get a knife when you have a sword and some daggers in your room?) I was able to talk him down abit.

My brother then told us what happened as he ran after the car thieves. He said he saw car pull up to a truck on the street adjusted to us. Like he said early there was four guys. My brother yelled out to the thieves "hey that's our car" where one of the guys replied "I don't know nothing about that" and hoped into the truck and drove off. Then the car went off, he went after the car again. Which seemed to have gone throw out the neighbor hood. My brother headed home when he lost them.

Shortly after my brother told us what happened the police came since they had most of the info my mother and brother went give the police the details.

a minute after the police left my brother's fiancee came. We told the story again. And then mostly everyone stood/sat around the living room. My brother chest seemed to be bothering him due to all the running he did.

It was mostly quite until someone said something funny which broke the still mood ever one was in.

Since my brother mentioned that the guys seemed young (maybe in high school) my mother thought it maybe on of the kids in the neighborhood that goes to the school she works at.

After some time we decided to go out to see if we can find the car on the streets. So we drove around the neighborhood. But didn't find the car. Though we did see a truck that my brother said look like the one he saw.

After that we went home but decide to turn around and look again but saw a car just parked out side with it's lights on so we where worried maybe it the car thieves returning (maybe to break into the house). So they picked me to check the house.

sadly I forgot that you have to open my mom's door a certain way sometimes or it wont open. So I was stuck outside as they drove of again looking for the car. I hanged around out side afraid that someone would see me and call the police thinking I was trying to break into the house. Lucky this didn't happened. I went out back to see about a bush that was growing to close the the house that I was going to cut down some time ago. But it was to dark to see where I should and shouldn't cut (it's by some wires so I want to be careful).

a half hour later they came back and said they ran in to my brother's fiancee's brother and they went around the city checking out place they knew that stolen cars show up.

They didn't find the car.

That pretty much the end of the story, we talked out side for a while but nothing worth talking about hear.

yet another racist middle age guy in the media

This time Bill O'reilly shows his ugly true colors.

On his show he has said things "there is a movement in this country to wipe out 'white privilege." and "According to the lefty zealots, the white Christians who hold power must be swept out by a new multicultural tide, a rainbow coalition, if you will."

Hell F'ing ya we want to wipe out white privilege why should someone get the upper hand just because they are white. It's long time that America is controlled by all Americans and not just one group.

I'm not sure if I should be glad these roaches are showing their true selves for all to see or scared that they have a platform like Fox News to speak out on.

Attack of the middle age racist on the boob tube

So I was watching Keith Olbermann on MSNBC where the host was talking to a guy (I didn’t catch his name or what he does) about Bush’s speech last night. Mainly they where talking about bush’s ideal of sending people to guard the American-Mexican broader.

Olbermann mentioned that a number of people in the reserve happen to be either decedents of illegal immigrants or they themselves may have been illegal immigrants in which it could be an interesting situation. And I’m sure that maybe an issue for a few.

But then Keith Olbermann guest states that it can be a problem because many of the people who will take the job would be those who are either unemployed or under-employed and that would be mostly Blacks and Latinos. This kind of perked my interested because I wonder why he thought it could be a problem, ok like I said maybe a problem for a some Latinos but not all of them and what would be the problem with African American? Then the guy turned around and said at least they aren’t going to be armed.

What the hell! Why is this guy so scared about of a bunch of Blacks and Latinos with guns. What does it matter the ethnic group of those who take the job, they are going to do same thing no matter their race. Should someone tell that guy the numbers of Blacks and Latinos working in fields that would give them access to arms such the military or police? Plus those that use there right to bare arms. I bet he would faint at the ideal that we would all them up and have a race war.

This just tops the fact that last week a guy on Fox News talking about people should go out and make babies because if they (YT) don’t America will be mostly minorities in 25 years. I’m having flashbacks of idiots screaming “we’re losing the country”…shutter.

Because of these two idiots I ask all minorities out there to go out and buys some guns and make some babies. And the White people that want to help out should find a any minority and make babies with them.

GUNS AND WHITE WOMEN FOR EVERYONE!!!

PS3 price giving Wii still in the dark

So the PS3 is going to cost about $500 to $600 depending on if you want a 20 Gig or 60 gig hard drive for your system.

But Nintendo is still keeping there price a secret only saying that there system is going to "more fun for less". I'm begining to think it's time for the big N to show it's hand on this one but I guess I can understand waiting (why give sony or microsoft the change to cut their prices below yours).

I do think the new xbox and playstation is over double what I would like to pay for a game system but I'm cheapass.

Sound controller

So it seems the Wii (Nintendo up coming game system formally know as the revolution) is going to have a speaker in the controller.

I guess I can see this adding a small level of detail to help make you like your in the game

La lata algunos me contesta porqué teniendo la estrella spangled la bandera en Espanola un problema tan grande

Can some answer me why having the star spangled banner in Espanola such a big problem

All right last week was full of people talking (and many being upset)about the Star Spangled Banner being translated in Spanish.

Since a lot of people seem to be upset about it I have to ask why is it a big deal. Right now it seems to many people are acting like "Oh no are nation anthem has been translated to a different language, it's the end of America."

I know some people say immigrants should learn English, but how is this stopping them form learning to speak English? The truth is it doesn't, in fact you could use the translated anthem and help use it to teach English.

a day with mexicans

Across the nation many illegal immigrants (and their supporters) held marches.

Part of the march was to show how much the American economy depends on their labor by not going to work. Sounds like a good ideal (and it seem to have some effect) but was this the plot of a movie?

makes me wonder how many other big movements can we get started by following movies.

so it seems that Bob Ross (the painter that had a show on pbs) is going to have a video game.

Really odd choice for a game, I remember liking watching the show when I was a kid (I like drawing and what not) but I can't say I really want to play this as a game.

Though I may rent it just to see if the game says things like and now to put in some happy little trees

Nebraska the state time lift behind

The Nebraska government is planning on cutting up the school district in Omaha along state lines. The only thing different this time is that the racial divide is not going to be just Black and White like it was just 50 years ago but between Blacks, Whites, and Latinos. Sorry Asians but I guess your kids don't get to go to school.

See how much we progressed.

I'm not sure what is more stunning the fact that this maybe become law, the fact that this proposal went through or the fact that this ideal came form the only Black member of that state's legislature.

That's right! If your like you where thinking that this ideal came from some old racist white guy wanting to return to the good ol' days where women and darkies knew their place.

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOO it comes from Ernie Chambers. I don't know if this old man is just gone crazy with age, suffered from brain injury or if he has always been in a slave mentality.

Or maybe he's really Strom Thurmond in Black face

Of course there people who are voicing against this like the 2nd richest man in the world Warren Buffett. So I am sure there will be enough force to stop this from actually happen.

Homeland security pedophile

Department of Homeland Security press secretary Brian Doyle was busted for having sexual contact to what he thought was a 14 year old girl.

Doyle sent the "girl" porn, naked pictures of himself (like a 14 year wants to see a nude 55 year old), and sexually explicit AIM's. Doyle also repeatedly ask the girl to by a webcam so he can see her things a little kid shouldn't be doing.

luckily for all the children in this nation this 14 year old girl was really a Polk County police detective.

Not only is this and the fact that Doyle kept bragging about his job to the girl he thought he was talking to bad enough this article took me a new level of shock (I didn't thing I could pass after reading about sir Doyle) when it stated this is the 2nd Homeland Security official to be caught having improper relations with a minor.

WTF!!!

Why don't I remember hearing about the other guy (of course with all the scandals of people in high office these day I guess it's easy to miss one or two).

This really makes me wonder about the office culture of those who work in Homeland Security offices and who are they really protecting because it sure aint are kids.

The genius of Rob Liefeld

I know I know many people are going to read the title of this post and think WHAT THE HELL! Please don't laugh and please no death threats.

ok you can laugh

I was looking through some of my old comics some time back and decided for some strange reason to flip through a few X-Force comics and some of Liefeld's earlier Image work.

I remember looking these books as a kid but reading those comics 15 years later the only thing I could think was holy crap this is bad. Why the hell did I like these books as a kid.

I know it vague to make fun of Liefeld but giving the fact that he was such a big artist in the early 90's I started to wonder not only why did I like his stuff but why did so many other like it at that time.

I thought about for a second and it became really clear on why He's work may have been so popular.

He tapped into imagination of a large block of that times comic book reading population 12 year old boys.

Rob basically did the same thing that many comic artist and writers have done before him. They took things that kids like/grew up with in other media (films/TV) and putting them in the comics.

In earlier periods it would have been things like thugs that fit in the old mobster/gangster movie motif, ideal taken by cheesy sci-fi and horror movies etc.

As kids growing up in the 80's/90's we where feed a nice media meal full of violence. Movies like Rambo, Robocop, Aliens and Terminator where common films shown on Saturday afternoons where before it kids would have been watching things like old horror, sci-fi, and ganster movies.

Liefeld took the basics of these movies...Guns and Action...And took them to a silly extreme for the little kiddies. So you get things like guns so huge there is no way they can be held by a human.

he basically made the perfect product for kids (mostly boys) of that era.

So why does Rob Liefeld get so much hate to day?

Simple like I said he's products where prefect for kids of that era.

His work wouldn't have much appeal to those fans who where not 12 year old boys in the early 90's because he didn't tap into things they liked in their youth.

next like many things targeting kids once you grow out of that age range those works can drastically loose their appeal. Mainly because they where written for kids and so the reading level is well below that of adults

and finally for those 12 year olds reading comics today...They grow up on a different media diet and so what appealed to the 90's kid wont appeal to them.

Homophobs are soooo gay

a test run by Prof. Henry E Adams of University of Georgia shows that 80 percent of those who hold Homophobic beliefs are in fact really attracted to the same sex.

it seems that most homophobs bash gays so much is that they think they will come off as striaght if they put down gays.

I allways feel like somebodies watching me...or evil Quacker terrorist

So we all know about the recent news that the goverment has been tapping peoples phones with out a warrent.

They said that they were only looking at people that mayhave ties with terrorist but it seems like what that really means is they are spying on anyone that doesn't agree with Bush and his policies (which is why I must add that I love Bush and like thing he is the Messiah or something) .

a few antiwar groups say that they have been spied.

Even the quackers are saying that they are been watched, and Florida congress rep Robert Wexler said "Neither you nor anybody in that (Quaker) church had anything to do with terrorism,"

the mothaf***ing Quakers what are they going to do bomb us with oatmeal? Go WWE on us and whack us with furniture?

Bet is starting an Animations department and will be head Denys Cowan (former comic artist, co-found of Milestone comic and cartoon producer on shows like static shock, boondocks).

cool news it gives up that BET is really trying to turn it self around from being nothing but booty shaking (not that I don't mind booty shaking but calling your sell Black entertainment TV we need more then justs Butts) but there is also a part of me that fears that the new cartoons will be notting but cita like shows.

Oh no New Orleans is going to be a chocolate city

It seems that Ray Nagin's comment about New Orleans will be a chocolate city again in his MLK day speech the other day has made some people upset.

I can understand why he made the comment. Many people worry that people will come in a buy the cheep property and push the poor (i.e. many of the Blacks) out of the city.

some how some people that heard Nagin's comment thank that saying that NO will be Black means he is saying "No whiteys allowed" but if one looks at the histories of the other chocolate cities in this country then you know that they are mostly Black not because anyone actively pushed Whites out. It just when city got a little brown many of the Whites decided to leave town (see Detroit, DC, Watts, etc)

Some seem to be a bit upset due to a break in Alito d!ck riding

I caught only a little bit of the today's Alito hearing.

giving what I say I have to wonder is this true did anyone actually attack Alito with their questions...Hell did anyone even ask him a slightly tuff question?

All I saw was a bunch of senators verbally running train on Alito's jock. And when anyone asked a question someone was quick to message the balls as someone worked the shaft.

Maybe because I was flipping back and forth and missed if anything actually happen did anyone actually ask Alito a challenging question or was this just spin?

and was the question really bad enough that it would make one's wife run away crying. Unless she is a very weak person I can't see, the mere fact he was asked something would upset someone.

Part of me thinks she couldn't hold in the truth and had to run out of the senate before she blurted out he is a bigot (but that is just speculation)

If someone did ask a hard question I'm sad I missed it.

I have been saved

Alright a plumber finally came, my bathtub is no longer broken...yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I can turn my water on and OFF.

It's funny I got scolded by a plumber I called to cancel since the other guy came. Hey man I know I had your go drive here (though I did try to call before he got to my house) but you have to understand I was since 2:30 dealing with this.

I now return this blog to me talking about weird news, poltics or pop culture, untell the next time I have some junk I need to get of my chest or in a state of panic.

yet another one

Just as I pushed post for my last message another plumber called and said they will make it in about 45 minutes.

Who will get here first and get the job I don't know.

The race is on!

at last a plumber to the rescue

Think god a plumber finally called me back and said they will be here in at least a few hours. I would like him here sooner but at least I finally got a responce.

It doesn't seem like my sink was leaking after all so I started dumping in more water again. though I think I need a bit of a breather. I've been dumping water for about eight hours.

I should be in bed. hurry up Mr. Plumber!
still waiting for a plumber to call back. actually I missed one so I recalled them after I got the message

my tub is near over flowing. I'm not sure if the kitchen sink is leaking to or if I spilt alot of water going in with my bucket.

Some one help me

Fing plumbing 24 hour emergency services

Alright as I type my bathtub faucet wont stop running. I have called a few plumbers to come and fix it (and looking up some more). That is between me getting a bucket of water to dump it into the kitchen sink, due to the fact that bathtub drains slowly and I fear it over flooding. I have been doing this since 3 in the morning I am pooped and am taking this time a much need breather.

What I am not liking about the plumbers that I call is that they say will come in block of time that is so long (and many will only come in one or two hours later if you are lucky).

F Armstrong plumbing and sewer service when I called the lady (and I used the term loosely) hanged up on me when I asked if there was a extra fee if I canceled (I'm calling more then one plumber to see who gets here first) she didn't even take my info yet.

Who wants to die? Elmo, was last Christmas hottest toy

There is an Elmo (a sesame street muppet) potty training book on the market in which Elmo ask the kid pushing one of the sound recorded buttons "who wants to die?" as he laughs. Clearly Elmo is planning on going on a killing binge, I think he was pissed about all those people tickling him.

It seems like only a few of the books have this message (the others just ask "Who want to go?"). Surely this will upset many parents who will call for a recall but the really smart ones will know that there is a secondary market of people twisted enough to want to by the book (like myself actually) and so they will sale their copy on eBay *

*note I have no ideal if this eBay seller really has a copy of the "who wants to die?" elmo I just link to the person with the lowest price at the time (some actually sold their copy for a 100 bucks)

U of M no longer selling coke

The University of Michigan is no longer going to carry coke cola products on it's campus.

the reason is because coke cola has bad labor practices in India and Colombia.

"The student group accused Coca-Cola of draining the water table in India, causing farmers' crops to go dry; distributing bottling plant sludge containing contaminants to Indian farmers as fertilizer; selling products that contain pesticides in India; and conspiring with paramilitary "

Yeah that does sound like some really bad labor practices.

mtv's Shook Ones: hypermasculinity and stupidity in a year of hip-hop

I was flipping the channels the other day and ran across a special on MTV in which they reviewed this year (2005 for those reading at a later date) in the world of hip-hop.

After watching this I want to give rapper Jim Jones the nomination for the dumbest negro on the air award. Mainly for his comment about wanting to see the day when rapper beef, when two or more rappers talk have a dispute with each other, escalating into people killing each other.

To bad none of the other panel members told him how stupid he was for making that comment. Closes we got was rapper Remy Ma's quick head turn after made the comment.

Doesn't he remember Biggie and Tupac?

---

a bit later in the show they talked about about comments producer/rapper Kanye West said about rappers should stop bashing gays in their songs and the fact that because he grew up in a single mother house hold he ended up acting a bit more feminine growing up.

These comments brought up more then a bit of anger among Bruce Banner and Jim Jones.

Banner says there are some things you just shouldn't talk about.

while Jim Jones states he is offended about the comment Kanye West saying that because his growing up in a household ran by a woman that he grew up feminine. Mr.Jones Thinks that because he grew up in similar situation and didn't feel he grew a bit feminine that Kanye West experience is bullshit.

Methinks he (Jim Jones) doth protest too much

I'm not really sure what made Jim Jones so angry. Is it the ideal that a boy growing up would take on the mannerism of those adults around him and in a case where one grows up with a father figure it more likely that the boy would pick up characteristic that are thought as as being more feminine then masculine.

It's not that big of a shock, that this sometimes happens. Hell even Tupac (to many a thug he is a god) said that because he grew up with only his mother he took on some feminine mannerism.

or maybe it the misbelief that if a man shows any sings of "feminine" got to be gay.

It could easily be both.

I think that the problem is that people set little boxes on the way they think people should act. So people act the way they think they should act and negatively react to those they see not acting the way they think they should.

When looking in terms of Feminine and Masculine it ends up that most people have a list things they think are manly or girly.

The problem is that real people can't be put into a box. Sure someone may step more into on set of categories then the other. But realistically a person is going to fall into a bit of both.

Those that try to mode themselves into only one box end up being a cartoonish version of whatever they are trying to be. Which now that I think about it maybe the reason why hip-hop may be so hypermasculine and hyperthuggy. It's because it is full of a bunch of people who are not acting like real men but acting like they think a man should act.

and that maybe why when Kanye said he picked a few mannerism from his mom he made Jim Jones so angry. He challenged Jones' ideal of the way a man/boy should act and maybe even challenged the way he acts.

ok that enough crappy pop physiology for today

Victory! The war on Christmas ends

The long fought battle against the evil anti Americans who want to destroy Christmas has finally ended.

Yes yes the long battles that have been going on for the past few months are finally over. No longer do we have to fear the horror and bloodshed that we have all grown to know to well.

Fear ye not, you can now go shopping without fear of being attacked by some overly culturally sensitive person greeting you with a Happy Holidays instead of the correct greeting of Merry Christmas.

I'm still a bit shell shock of all the horrors I've seen this month. I still wake up at nights in horrors of what I have seen and what I had to do in these troubling times.

For example I can still see the face of the elderly man I had to kill after he attacked me in a walmart with his words of happy holidays. Said this poor genital man in the twilight of his life had to end. He probably had a wife or girlfriend just like any of the boys on our side. He'll he may even have had kids or grandkids.

But it's over now. The best thing we can do as a nation is get together and rebuild.

It may take some time before we can become at ease. But for the time being it looks like we will be safe, we saved Christmas form being destoried. The only thing that we might have to worry about is if the Jews and Negros decide to join forces and celebrate their holidays at the same time this year. An axis of unChristmasness if you will.

I saw this clip for the show trading spouses.

The ideal of the show hasn't appealed to me so I never watched, but I wish I saw this episode. At the very least to see what set this lady off.

Hip hop videos sexploitation

I was watching a special on VH1 about sexism in rap music videos. Which is a fact that can’t really be denied.

The only problem I had was that the show spent to much time on woman that where exploiting themselves. I’m mainly talking about the shows focus on the females that went around and whored themselves to the rappers, clicks, and whatever. It was mainly this woman nicked name Super-head that ruined the special for me, for those that don’t know super-head was a video girl that sleep around with many rappers and their clicks and recently wrote a book about that time in her life. It really hard to feel sorry for someone who willing sleep around with people and then later wrote a book about it.

The special also had the video girls/models talking about the video hoes. The later are the women that will sleep with rappers, clicks or cast directors either because they think that will get them the part or because they just want to get closer to the rapper. This is a problem for the former because there seems to be so many video hoes that the men working on video treat all the women working in the video like the would the ho. Not that the plethora of video hoes is no excuse on the guys part to treat women the way they do.

I sympathies for poor work conductions these women (the video girl/models, not the video hoes) have to go through. Like the woman that said she was trap in a corner by director with his dick out. I felt real bad for her. But these ladies stories where mixed in with the video hoes trying to drum up sympathy with their tails.

Though I favored the video girls/models points there where a few that I had time as seeing as sexism in the hip-hop music video industry. The main one was a few of the women complained about being asked to dance during the casting call. Giving the fact that they are trying to work in a music video and most video have people dancing I would think that it kind of odd that they would get mad when ask to dance. I mean I can understand getting upset if you where asked to dance on a job interview for telemarketing or something but not a music video. I don’t thank that part is sexist maybe the real problem is that when people place ads for video models they should mention if the job is dancing or non-dancing.

Oddly even though this was a type of music video that many of the video girls/models and a director said was the worst, most sexist of all videos. I found that the part of the show when they talked to the women that where in an uncut video seemed just as professional then the video girls (you know not the ones sleeping around). They were all strippers at a club, yet non of them seemed to fall into the video hoe category. They were also the only group that wasn’t screaming about being exploited for sex and yet they may have been the most exploited. It’s not because they showed the most skin and shaked a lot more ass then the other women. But because they said they didn’t get paid.

Maybe it just me but I also think that the uncut video do less harm due to the fact that they are on so late not as many people watch them and more importantly little kids are very unlikely to catch it since they should be asleep.

Speaking about little kids I would have liked if this special went more into the effects of little kids watching music videos. I think that is where the biggest problem in music video sexism lies. Although I think it’s bad that the women working in the videos have to go throw so much crap, I think it’s worse that little girls can develop low self of steam and boys devalue women because of these video (along with a slue of other factors in life and the media).

Ethnic self hate, the quest to reach for White Beauty

The other day I was watching a documentary on AZN about Asian women wanting plastic surgery to make them look more western (ie White).

The basic reason these women gave to why they wanted to change the way they looked is because they want to fit the Westernized standard of beauty. The reason why they want to fit more into the mode of western Whiteness may either be because they have been bombard with the ideal beauty pushed by the media or even because someone or people in there family push it onto them.

As I was watching this I realized that the ideal that the ideal beauty takes on more Caucasian characteristics is something that looms over many people and can have a strong effect on the self image of non-whites.

For example I know from an African American perspective that there have been in the past whole industries of products made to make on look whiter. Any thing form lye used to burn hair straight to skin lighting creams (which I remember reading a few years ago that similar products are being used in Africa). In fact even today there are Blacks who use plastic surgery to change their noises or lips.

And thinking about that something else hit me. Even thought the media mostly pushes whiteness as the standard of beauty it sometimes also absorbs little bits of characteristic of other ethnic groups. So although you get a Black person who want thinner lips, because they want to look more Caucasian, you also have White person want to fuller lips. Something that is more characteristic of people of African descent.

So now I am wondering does this mean that there are going to be a number of non-Asians wanting to look Asian. So as where the women in the doc wanted to get a fold placed in their eyelids to look more western, will there also be a number of people not of Asian descent wanting to get the folds removed from their eyelids so they look a bit more “exotic”.

If this isn’t happening already I would bet that it is only a matter of time that it does.

Tookie Williams dies

Stanley "Tookie" Williams was put to death today.

This is something I have mixed emotions about. I'm not for the death penalty, mainly for two reasons. First of which I don't care monstrous of an act someone does we are only going down to there level if we just kill them. We could just easily lock them a way for ever so they are not left out to harm people in society. Second is that the legal system is fallible and sometimes the wrong person goes to jail.

Now Tookie is far from innocent. Even if he didn't murder the four people he was convicted for as he says he didn't (note I am not saying he didn't, just that he claims to be innocent) he was a co-founder of the cripes gang. A group that has done there part to kill countless people.

But even though Tookie was far from being an angel, he did began to change his ways. Around 93 he started writing children books which themes where to teach kids not to follow in the same footstep he walked. He also brokered a peace between the gang he founded (the cripes) and the bloods.

And although these things don't make up for what he did, at least Mr. Williams is doing something that will help stop other form doing the same things he did. Which I think clear shows that he had more value to society alive then dead.
